ABOUT THE EVENT
Our goal is to provide real-world experience and knowledge of the professional industry to young aspiring dancers in the structure of a solo dance event.
AUDITIONS
The audition component of the day is structured to mimic a real-life audition experience. The schedule will consist of 3 audition classes (technique, theatre, and hip-hop) during which the dancers will learn a short combination and then perform it in smaller groups for the adjudication panel. The classes will be taught by both the event directors and the adjudicators. Please dress accordingly for each style. Dancers will keep their belongings in the theatre throughout the course of the audition classes. Dancers will receive both a mark and a critque pertaining to their individual audition. This mark will be a reflection of each dancer's audition etiquette, style and performance. The judge's are always watching, just like a casting panel, so always be on your A-game!
INTERVIEWS
The interview component of the competition is a one-on-one discussion between each competitor and their adjudication panel. This portion of the competition is designed to highlight the importance of interpersonal skills in the professional industry. Most dancers do not realize that their off-stage etiquette and personality are just as important as their on-stage talent. The interviews will consist of personal questions for each contestant in order to get a better idea of their personality. Dancers will receive both a mark and a critique pertaining to their interview etiquette. Please dress business casual, in typical job interview attire. The judges will be assessing each dancer's appearance, demeanour, and interpersonal skills.
SOLO COMPETITION
The solo competition is an opportunity for each dancer to perform their solo for the adjudicators and receive feedback on their performance. Each dancer will have 3 minutes or less to perform a solo in the genre of their choice. Video judge feedback will be provided from each of the judges on-line, as well as a video recording. Dancers are welcome to wear any costume they feel is suitable for their performance. Dancers will be given a mark that pertains to their technique and performance in their chosen genre.
MASTERCLASSES
For the first time EVER we are offering additional masterclasses at BNG2019. These masterclasses provide dancers with the opportunity to work with yet another esteemed choreographer from the professional dance industry without the added pressures of being marked on their performance.

SEMINARS
At BNG we pride ourselves on providing our participants with as much information as we possibly can in order to help them with their future endeavours both as a dancer and a human overall. In order to do so, we are offering additional seminars throughout the day to discuss a wide range of important topics.

ADJUDICATION PANEL Q&A
The six adjudicators will conduct a general Q&A for the dancers before the announcement of the Top 5. The Q&A will be an opportunity for the dancers to inquire directly to the panel any questions they have related to the professional industry. These can include questions regarding advice on how to become a professional dancer or choreographer, or simply questions about each adjudicator's experiences throughout their career. The adjudicators will provide information about their personal journeys and experiences throughout their careers, and provide the dancers with the knowledge and advice they need to break into the professional industry.

DANCE-OFF BATTLE
Once the scores for the auditions, interview, and solo competition are tabulated, the top five dancers in each age division will be announced. These five dancers will participate in a freestyle battle across five genres: jazz, ballet, contemporary, hip-hop and tap. Each dancer must come prepared with the necessary footwear for each of these categories to participate in the dance-off battle. Each dancer will be given approximately 30 seconds to perform each style for the adjudication panel. The judges will deliberate and rank the top five dancers in order of placement (from 1st-5th) for the final awards presentation.
BNG SHOWCASE
Since the audition process is closed to all parents and teachers, we have decided to add a brief BNG showcase at the end of our event where the dancers perform each audition piece from the weekend. To finish off the showcase, all BNG participants will have learnt a closing routine that they will perform to end the night!
AWARDS
Dancers placing in the Top 3 of each age category will receive a scholarship from the Battle of the Next Generation and exclusive BNG merchandise. In addition, there will be a variety of scholarships and opportunities provided for the dancers. The panel will be responsible for assigning these scholarships and opportunities to the dancers they feel are most deserving. These awards DO NOT have anything to do with their scores. It is important to us that the emphasis is not necessarily on the marks of the competition, but more on the experiences, knowledge, and opportunities that the dancers gain from this event.
